A new government program has been unveiled by the Obama administration on Monday. The program helps to support state and local housing finance agencies in helping first time homebuyers purchase a house, as well as to develop rental housing availability.
Many state and local agencies that have provided these services have had a hard time recently raising money because of the lack of credit. The new program will involve Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac assisting with the credit crunch. The two companies will package mortgages and then sell them to the treasury department.
The estimated cost of the program has not occurred, because officials have stated that the size of the program will largely be based on the demand that the program generates.
