Letters from AMR Corp retirees sent to U.S. Court addressing concerns about pension plans

by Administrator 25. January 2012 10:06

Former American Airlines employees have sent letters to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court – Southern District of New York in a letter writing campaign to address concerns over AMR Corp.'s pension plans.

Judge Sean Lane received five letters on the docket all written using the same wording regarding their frustration over the pension plans put in place since AMR Corp filed for bankruptcy.

The letters were written as follows,

“As a retiree of American Airlines, I earned my pension over the course of a XX year career, and I have counted on its financial security for my ‘Golden Years.’ If AMR is allowed to do away with the Pension Fund, there will be several more thousands of citizens depending on the U.S. Government for money it doesn’t have. Our Government is already operating under trillions of dollars of debt. This debt is adversely affecting our economy, and will be for decades to come.

AMR Executives should surrender some of their excessive pay, bonuses, and ‘golden parachutes’ in order to improve AMR’s financial future. The ‘workers’ have sacrificed many times during the Company’s history. It is time ‘someone else’ does the sacrificing. American Airlines would not have been as successful were it not for the devotion and sacrifice of its workers.”

Upscale retirement residence files for bankruptcy

by Administrator 17. November 2011 15:09

The Clare at Water Tower, a high-end residence for the elderly in Chicago, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday.

The facility was not able to attract enough wealthy seniors since opening, and filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Chicago.  The company listed $100 million to $500 million in assets and liabilities. Its creditors include Loyola University, the City of Chicago, Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corp., and Greystone Development of Irving, TX.

A representative of the Clare stated the company was "dangerously close to running out of working capital." Maryland-based Redwood Capital Investments, LLC is a potential buyer of the property.

Only 80 condos were occupied by residents thirteen months after opening. They have since struggled to pay off debts.

Governor announces workers affected by Allen bankruptcy will be assisted

by Administrator 28. June 2011 03:08

Martin O'Malley, the governor of Maryland, recently announced that workers and small businesses that have been affected by Allen Family Food's filing of Chapter 11 bankruptcy would be receiving state government assistance until they are able to get back on their feet.

Allen Family Foods was a company based in Maryland that was a global exporter of poultry products. The company recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which affected many of the small businesses that sold and purchased poultry through the company.

Now, the state of Maryland is looking to help those small businesses and their workers avoid bankruptcy themselves. According to Gov. O'Malley, "Our administration is working to pull together all available resources to help protect the growers and employees impacted by the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Allen Family Food."
