Florida court system receives $45.6 million loan

by Administrator 12. October 2011 07:50

The Florida court system has received its second loan by Governor Rick Scott after an increased risk of a deficit. The Governor's office stated that the court system must repay the loan by June 30, the end of the current budget year.

This past April, Scott loaned the courts $19.5 million after the last budget year saw a $72.3 million shortfall. Scott additionally shifted $14 million to the courts for funding. Many blame the court's shortfall on the decline of foreclosure filing fees. In the past year, against expert expectations, foreclosures have declined in Florida.

Court officials must develop a plan to pay back the loan and submit it to the Legistlature by November 1st.
