Slow Modification Traps Homeowner in Foreclosure

by Administrator 4. February 2011 03:45
Millions of distressed homeowners struggling to get loan modifications are seeing their homes sold before negotiations are complete.

The overwhelmed financial system is processing complicated loan modification paperwork, but often not fast enough. For many homeowners, loan modification is a race against time. Regina Harper, a California-resident, was struggling to keep her home, until Saxon Mortgage allowed her to try and save the property by modifying her mortgage.

Harper entered the government's Making Home Affordable program and her house payments were cut in half for a trial period. Harper said the program was a huge relief, until she got a shocking phone call. "[The phone call] to tell me that I was no longer the owner and that my place was sold and that Deutsche Bank was the owner and that I had to move," Harper said. She discovered that while she was busy negotiating a loan modification, foreclosure wheels had still been turning.

If you are behind on your mortgage payments and are in danger of losing your home to foreclosure, a Maryland mortgage modification lawyer of Chaifetz & Coyle, P.C., can help you defend your home by assisting with the loan modification process.
